Aston Villa v Manchester United Preview

Suggested bet: Draw, 3.40 available @ sportmarket.com

In a late Saturday fixture, Aston Villa face a continually dejected Manchester United at home. This exciting match-up could give debuts to new signings Lucas Digne and Philippe Coutinho, with Coutinho poised to make his first Premier League appearance in four years since leaving Liverpool for Barcelona.

Without giving too much away the possible debuts of the two players, Aston Villa manager Steven Gerrard stated in his press conference the other players in his squad who will miss out on playing. Ashley Young, who is still nursing a broken toe, and John McGinn who is banned.

Despite being in another minor crisis after another, much of the Manchester United squad should be available for this game. Harry Maguire, Phil Jones, Jadon Sancho and Cristiano Ronaldo all missed Monday’s FA Cup win over Villa but they should be fit for this game. However, Luke Shaw and Scott McTominay are suspended.

The two teams met just on Monday at Old Trafford. Aston Villa were hard done by when they lost at Manchester United in the FA Cup on that night, and an upset here could at least be a little bit more likely on the cards now.

Coutinho, the star who will be taking much of the headlines in the game, will be unlikely to start due to his lack of minutes in Barcelona. He’ll probably be on the bench and if they need a lift – and a trick or two – they can bring him on.

Villa have lost 10 of their past 14 competitive fixtures, including the last three in a row. The Red Devils could also lose their opening two league games of a calendar year for the first time since 1985.

Any team here could walk away with three points if rested on the shoulders of any particular individual’s brilliance if called upon, however they are two forces who are just about equal in form. A sensible but productive bet would be to bet on an equal outcome between the two sides, a draw. Maybe even a correct score like 1-1 if you’re feeling confident enough.
